Ever made a promise you regretted? In Joshua 9, the Israelites, fresh off some amazing victories thanks to God, get tricked! Some sneaky people called the Gibeonites pretend to be from a faraway land, all worn out and humble. They lie and make a peace treaty with Joshua without asking God first!

This chapter shows us a few important things:

  • Don't rush into big decisions: Joshua and the leaders didn't seek God's guidance, and it led to trouble.
  • Appearances can be deceiving: The Gibeonites looked poor and traveled, but it was all an act.
  • Keep your word, even when it's hard: Even though they were tricked, the Israelites honored their oath.

Family Discussion Points:
  • Have you ever been tricked by someone? How did it make you feel?
  • Why is it important to ask God for help when making big decisions?
  • What does it mean to keep your promises, even when it's difficult?
  • How can we tell if someone is being honest with us?

This story reminds us to always seek God's wisdom and to be careful about who we trust. Even a "peace treaty" can be bad if it's not God's plan!
